June 10 When I went on a safari nine years ago, we saw one rhino, and it was very difficult to find. Once we found it, we had to keep our distance and remain completely silent, because it was a black rhino. Apparently, black rhinos are way more temperamental than this white rhino we saw, because we got a lot closer. It was really fascinating. They look so prehistoric!
June 11 An elephant on our safari...one that we didn't ride. We actually had a number of encounters with elephants while we were on our game drives. Some of them were kind of a little bit terrifying.
June 12 Giraffes on our safari.
June 13 Cape Town from the top of Table Mountain.
June 14 Penguins is practically chickens. And that's not a snake, by the way. It's a piece of kelp.
June 15 A selfie in South Africa's Winelands. A really fun day. If only customs would have allowed us to bring more back with us. Alors.
June 16 We got exit rows again on our return flight from Johannesburg. Hence, the smiles.
June 17 The thing about being away from dogs for so long is that they're super extra cuddly when you return. It's kinda a little bit pitiful, in a sweet way. Poor little Huckleberry.
June 18 After work, I met up with my spouse and our housemate to watch the World Cup and to eat wings. I love wings. To eat, not the band. Does anyone love Linda McCartney on keyboards, really? No. Chicken wings. And soccer. Awesome evening.
June 19 This has something to do with my job. I'm not going to explain it. Just trust me when I tell you it's pretty damned cool.
June 20 So, this is that thing where you're halfway to work, and suddenly they announce that the train is being taken out of service, but there's another train right behind, and you're crammed on a platform with a bunch of angry people who are all now late for work.
