Considering how close it is to where I live, and in light of the fact that the wait for a table at 7 p.m. on a Saturday wasn't very long at all, I can't really tell you why it's taken me so long to get to Franny's in Brooklyn. It was terrific.
Wood-fired pizzas are only part of the deal at Franny's we also had wood-fire roasted asparagus with a fried egg, and a lightly-dressed salad of spring greens, where the greens actually tasted like something. Did you know that lettuce is supposed to have flavor? It tastes like lettuce. Fascinating!
There's a similar pizza place nearer to our house, but Franny's focuses more on local and seasonal food. For example, my pizza had ramps and pork confit (and was delicious). Actually, all of the pizzas were delicious. We got four and shared them. I tried to take a photo of them, but I was so eager to dig into my meal that I couldn't hold the camera still long enough to get a good shot.
So, here's what that looked like.
